Welcome to Photographs of Redcar
My name is Mick and this is my collection of images, from in and around my home town of Redcar, a small seaside town situated on the North East coast of England. Surrounded by heavy industry it is easy to dissmiss Redcar as being a place to be left out of your places to visit, I hope after seeing what Redcar has to offer you will change your mind. Well enough of all this talk lets get down to the photographs. Please click on the links below to navigate the site.
We will start from the East of theTown

| Whitby Goth Weekend 08 |

Washed up on the stray at redcar 02/02/08. A Jack up rig being used to test bore for the planned wind turbines in Coatham bay.
Unmanned when, due to heavy seas it was torn from its legs and ended up a few miles south of its mooring on the beach at the Stray.

These are the seas that helped the rig to ground at the Stray at Redcar.

Rough but should bring the cod in.

Groynes at Redcar Stray

The Stray at Redcar

Early Morning looking towards Saltburn

Zetland roundabout now has a new decoration in the form of the Volente
A nice sunrise taken at what the locals of Redcar know as the Stray, in the background you can see the cliffs of Huntcliffe,Boulby and Sandsendness.
Shot fom the beach at the Stray at low water again showing the cliffs. The wooden structure in the centre of the image is known as a groyne they serve to stop the sand from being taken from the beach
Just because the weather is not so nice does not mean the locals stay indoors. on the contrary some of the more hardy locals are out fishing some even take their dogs
This is a close up of one the groynes down on the Stray the timber used for these is Greenheart, used because it is not affected by constant immersion in seawater.
Low water reveals the East scar rocks these have been treacherous in the past for shipping. They do provide an excelent perch for fishing if you know what your doing. Beware they are really slippy underfoot
The fishing coble Daisey Ellen parked up on the seafront, the building in the background is the Coast Watch tower, Here they keep a watchful eye on the surrounding coast logging all boats comings and goings.
Back to the Stray and there is a storm brewing, the North Sea is a very unforgiving place for the unwary and has taken many lives over the years.
A gentle stroll along here will lead you to the Stray a favourite walk with the locals and well worth a stroll if you ever visit Redcar © |
